The Village Hive is a small bakery and local foods collective located in downtown Amherst, Wisconsin. We offer sweet & savory treats, fresh baked bread, homemade jams, local eggs, honey, vegetables, and meats. We are open Wednesday through Sunday. Our hours change seasonally and are listed on our homepage and Facebook page.
Please call us during business hours with any special orders, special requests, questions, or concerns you have or email us at email@example.com. We aspire to provide a variety of fresh, delicious, locally sourced food for the Village of Amherst and surrounding areas.
Shared Use Kitchen
One of the biggest obstacles for starting a food business is the high cost of setting up a commercial kitchen. The Village Hive exists to help you overcome that obstacle. We are a fully equipped, commercially licensed, shared use kitchen in Amherst, WI., allowing you to build your business on an as needed basis with lowered risk and minimized start-up costs.
Alternatively referred to as a kitchen incubator, or cooperative kitchen, The Village Hive provides a fully equipped, commercially licensed shared-use kitchen available for rent by the hour. We’ve taken the considerable financial risk of opening and operating a commercial kitchen and reduced it to a fixed cost on which to base your business plans. Our hourly rates mean you only pay for what you use. You can start with us, grow with us, and when the time is right, move from our kitchen into your own.
The Hive kitchen has been used for catering, classes, and, of course production. Products made or developed in our kitchen can be found in cafes, restaurants, and markets throughout the Central Wisconsin area as well as in the Village Hive retail.
Our sole business is helping you with yours, and to that end we pride ourselves on being friendly, flexible, and attentive to your needs.
Kitchen Rental and Equipment
The Village Hive is a 1800 sq. ft. commercial kitchen facility, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our space is divided into three areas: kitchen, retail, and packaging / storage area.
A quick summary of our equipment is listed to the right. The only items we ask our clients to bring are small wares such as utensils and scales, and disposable items (plastic wrap, foil, sheet pan liners, etc).
We can accommodate a wide range of needs, and support growing businesses. We’ve had everything from one baker to a team of cooks using our kitchen at one time. Whether its daily production runs or one time catering events, we have the space.
Reserving Kitchen Time
We handle booking by accepting reservations for the current and next calendar month. Priority is given to standing reservations, allowing our clients to establish a regular schedule. New and additional reservations are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cleaning & Supplies
Each customer is responsible for cleaning the kitchen as part of their kitchen use, including all equipment, tables, and floors. We’ll supply all the necessary cleaning supplies and will take care of the periodic deep cleans.
Retail and Promotion
Businesses at the Village Hive make real, honest, hand-crafted food. They support and nurture relationships with local farmers and producers and are proud to be a part of Central Wisconsin’s growing, vibrant food community.
Products made in the Village Hive Kitchen may be sold in the retail area of the Village Hive. The retail is open Thursday-Saturday. A small percentage is taken from the sale of products to cover the cost of weekly retail staffing.
A newsletter highlighting Hive products, business owners, and classes as well as a Village Hive Facebook page is updated weekly to help promote Hive businesses. Hive businesses are also offered many opportunities to advertise jointly in area publications thereby reducing marketing costs.
The Village Hive is available for rent on an hourly basis, and we’re committed to offering the lowest hourly rates possible. If you’re interested in reserving time in the kitchen, we can work with you to schedule time for anywhere from a one-time use the next day, to reserving regular, recurring time slots for an entire month. The kitchen is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Rates vary based on time of day and frequency of use.
Kitchen rental rates range between $12 – 15 per hour.
